WOW. JUST WOW.

And here comes the scrutiny. Today's NRO and WSJ both have absolutely searing pieces about Mike Huckabee. The Club for Growth's Pat Toomey writes in NRO, while John Fund unloads in the Journal. Fund's piece contains the following jarring quote from one of the absolute greats of the conservative movement:

Phyllis Schlafly, president of the national Eagle Forum, is even more blunt. "He destroyed the conservative movement in Arkansas, and left the Republican Party a shambles," she says. "Yet some of the same evangelicals who sold us on George W. Bush as a 'compassionate conservative' are now trying to sell us on Mike Huckabee."

In all the "values voter" talk, it's sometimes easy to forget that economic conservativism matters also. And sometimes "values voters" and economic conservatives are the same people.

It will be interesting to see the Huckabee camp's response.
