My daughter Kate's 1st grade class took a field trip to watch a voting precinct in action during today's Ohio primary. The officials showed the students what real ballots looked like and then the children got a chance to "vote" on make-believe ballots. They were given their prized "voting stickers" on the way back to school. Kate was apparently quite upset that Mitt Romney's name was not on the ballot. Afterwards, when I picked her up from school, she asked me how many ballots she would have to make to get Romney elected. She also wanted to make her own ballot box. When told she wouldn't have time to make the number of ballots needed because of our tight schedule of piano lessons, dance class and homework, she replied, "What's more important Mom? Electing Mitt Romney or doing my homework?" I appropriately responded with an adamant "your homework." Kate, my six year-old political activist, replied with "not in my opinion Mom" and insisted on going home and making 100 ballots for Mitt Romney.

"Hang on sweet daughter, we'll do this again in four years."
