ONCE AGAIN I STAND IN AWE OF DAVID

A coffeepot for an anniversary present?

Brave, dude. Very brave.

NANCY adds:

Here's why the coffee pot (almost) worked for me. We got married in France eleven years ago, and the illustrious Mr. French apparently believed he could coast on that single romantic gesture the rest of our marriage. He forgot our first anniversary, we've never celebrated Valentine's Day, and birthdays are usually an occasion for me to buy something for myself. We agreed that getting married in Paris was worth about ten years of credit. That's why, at number eleven, I was surprised to awaken to a new coffee pot and red roses. From Wal-Mart.

Literally, I was so touched that he didn't totally blow it off, I almost didn't mind that the coffee pot he gave me didn't even work. Or that it required me to use little coffee "pods" that were not only expensive, but tasted like the floor of a gas station.
