ON STANDARDS AND SETTING AN EXAMPLE
When news broke of a scandal involving Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK), Governor Romney said that we Republicans "have got to hold ourselves to a higher standard." Now, in light of the storm swirling around Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID), Governor Romney called his alleged conduct "disgusting" and added this:
I think it reminds us of the fact that people who are elected to public office continue to disappoint, and they somehow think that if they vote the right way on issues of significance or they can speak a good game, that we'll just forgive and forget.
I couldn't agree more. I'm glad Senator Craig resigned from the Romney campaign, and I look forward to his departure from my city.
