KNOWING WHO YOUR FRIENDS ARE
Two of our favorite readers sent us a Pew Forum Study that sheds light on some interesting facts. Namely, Mormons are much more anti-abortion and anti-same sex marriage and more conservative overall than Evangelicals.
This survey was picked up by USAToday, which noted that Mormons are more likely to be offended by Hollywood than other groups.
US News & World Report covered the same story, pointing out that Mormons are “more Republican/Conservative than Evangelicals."
Quoting from that last article, we discover:
Members of historically black churches are the only religious group in which there is more consensus in partisanship than Mormons, with 77% identifying as Democrats.
Today, I spoke to a group of GOP ladies in Paris, Tennessee (my hometown). It went wonderfully. Inevitably, I received a question from one of the attendees.
"Do you think Mitt Romney's religion hurt him? And how do you think it'll play out?"
Basically, I told her what I've said all along. LDS members are co-belligerents in the culture wars... and conservative evangelicals should be downright thankful for them!
