Opinion Journal's Political Diary (subscription required) says McCain is AWOL:

The Senate last week rejected 67 to 29 a proposal to pull American troops from Iraq by early next year. But as with so many votes lately, presidential candidate John McCain wasn't there. He was one of only four Senators not present.

A recurring theme of Mr. McCain's campaign has been that while the Senator has made the Iraq war a centerpiece of his platform, he's been fighting the good fight in Washington whenever the issue is debated.

Back in March, the Senate voted down a resolution opposing President Bush's troop surge by a narrow vote of 50 to 48. But Mr. McCain wasn't there, even though he called U.S. support for the surge and Gen. David Petraeus, the new commander in Iraq, "vital." Mr. McCain also failed to make the vote on another resolution that would cut off funds to the troops in Iraq.
