AND ON THE "OTHER CANDIDATE"...

Those conservatives who are always looking to be enraged or disappointed should brace themselves. According to the New York Times, Senator Thompson committed a mortal sin tonight on Fox after the debate. He flip-flopped:

On the matter of the McCain-Feingold law on campaign finance, conservatives have opposed it because they say it limits the free speech of interest groups. Mr. Thompson was one of 11 Republicans who supported it. He said tonight that he has come to see that part of the bill is wrong because too much soft money is getting into the system.

While the misguided conservatives who think changing one's mind is a mortal sin must be fainting right now, I think Senator Thompson deserves kudos here. If the transcript I'm reading is accurate, he bragged to Sean Hannity about raising the hard money limits (good) and savaged the McCain-Feingold restrictions on pre-campaign ads that Wisconsin Right to Life and James Bopp, Jr. are challenging. Nice job joining Governor Romney, the pro-life convert, on the correct side of this issue, Senator.
