A QUICK NOTE ON THE ABORTION ISSUE

Reading the absurd Red State piece Nancy discusses below, I am struck by the author's enthusiastic adoption of leftist argumentation methods. A person can't change their mind. Instead, they "lie." And actions consistent with a changed mind aren't evidence of a genuine conversion but instead merely confirm the alleged lie.

In office, Governor Romney has been steadfastly and courageously pro-life. I think that is something to applaud, but "Ben" believes such actions are worthy of contempt. Ben, here in the conservative world we don't actually like DailyKos-style argumentation.

If you don't like Governor Romney's earlier rhetoric on abortion, fine. I don't either. If you think his earlier rhetoric makes his recent change suspect, make that argument. But "Ben's" reasoning makes genuine conversion impossible. If I said something 12 years ago, then I can't change my mind or I'm "lying." What a ridiculous straitjacket.

And what a cheap rhetorical trick.
